Abstract

13,767. Boult, A. J., [Sonneville, H., Sonneville, J., and Landriau, E.]. July 31. Carding-engines ; openers etc.; burri n g - apparatus. - Relates to apparatus for burring, carding, and cleaning wool, &c. The invention consists essentially in drawing the lap of fibres over the edge of an adjustable blade c<1>, so as to cause the fibres of the lap to become parallel with one another and to expose the burrs and d other impurities so that they may be readily removed by the beating - apparatus g described in Specification No. 13,768, A.D. 1900. In Fig. 1, each blade c<1> is adjustably mounted on a casing c', which encircles the first roller a or a<1> of each pair a, b or a<1>, b<1>. The rollers a, a<1> have each flexible teeth, while the roller b is provided with saw-shaped teeth and is rotated faster than the roller a so as to draw the material over the edge of the blade c'. The roller b<1> is smooth, carries a comb h, and is reciprocated on its axis i and also bodily between the extreme positions shown in dotted and full lines, so as to stretch the lap of fibre and transfer it to a roller f, by which it is passed to the roller a. The casings c<2> prevent the refuse from falling back into the teeth of the rollers a, a<1>. The roller b<1> is operated by the eccentric and crank motion shown. Blades such as c<1> may also be applied to the ordinary clearer rollers of a carding-engine, where they serve further to remove impurities from the material which has been partially carded.
