Abstract
188,869. Smith, W. F. Oct. 3, 1921. Hoods.-A vehicle hood. particularly suitable for side-cars, comprises a flexible body part which will fold or roll and two resilient longitudinal edge strips permanently applied thereto and adapted to be rigidly strained lengthwise to bow or arch shape, the strips being formed of pieces hinged together so that the whole hood can fold longitudinally. A sheet a, Fig. 1, of waterproof material is permanently secured to longitudinal edge strips c, d each formed in two parts joined by butt hinges l<3> and connected together by a transverse stay m, the parts of which are similarly hinged at m<2>, so that the sheet can be folded both longitudinally and transversely. In use, pegs e, f on the strips c, d engage sockets g on the vehicle bodv and the sheet is bowed to the form shown in Fig. 7, the front being secured to the body by adjustable telescopic members h, i. Intermediate stays n, o, pivoted respectively to the strips c, d, detachably engage studs on the opposite strip, sliding ferrules q<4> keeping them. rigid in the extended position.
