Abstract

183,410. Ter Cock, C. April 9, 1921. Controlling variablespeed gearing.- Relates to control mechanism for solenoidoperated gearing such as is described in Specification 105,192 and in which the control is effected by a rotary handle 7, Fig. 4, such as is described in Specifications 173,802 and 183,198. A single solenoid 21 effects the shifting of a rotatable selector shaft 51 in two directions by means of two levers 48, 52 actuated conjointly. The plunger 49 of the solenoid 21 engages one lever 48 medially pivoted. The lever 52 is separately pivoted and connected by toothed gearing 52<a>, 48<a> to the lever 48, so that the levers have opposed scissor-like motions in different planes. The shaft 51, Figs. 1 and 2, has a head 5G adapted when turned through a right-angle to engage either lever. The shaft 51 is thus thrust in either direction according to its setting. The electric connections are made by a controller 15, Fig, 4, geared to the handle 7. A control for four-speed and reversing gearing is shown in Fig. 9.
