Abstract

177,178. B³ttner, G. M. March 19, 1921, [Convention date]. Variable-speed gearing.-A train comprising an eccentric 5, Fig. 2, rollers 3, and a cam ring 1, as described in Specification 177,854, is controlled so as to yield a variable-speed by a wobbling ring 9, Fig. 4, coacting with a ratchet 12 through pins 11, the number of which is changed. The rollers 3, which differ in number from the cam swells on the ring 1, are carried in a ring 2 and transmit power between the ring 1 and eccentric 5 through a ball-bearing ring 4 on the latter. The carrier ring 2 is connected to the ratchet 12, and the eccentric 5 to the spindle 8 of a roller 7, Fig. 4. The cam train may be locked to turn solid by pins 10, or relative motion may take place, when the roller 7 causes the ring 9 to have a wobbling motion round the ratchet 12. The extent of this wobbling is controlled by inserting two, three, four, or five pins 11 into as many holes 11<a>, these pins acting by being thrust against the inclined flanks of the ratchet teeth.
