Abstract

175,928. Parsons, O. H. May 17, 1921. Wave energy, utilizing.-Mechanism whereby the rolling motion of a boat &c. may be utilized for generating power for propelling a boat comprises three parallel A-shaped frames connected by a spacing-bar 15 and supporting a drive-shaft 16, countershaft 17, 18, and a power shaft 19. A rocker lever 20 has a weighted bucket 23 and a rocker head comprising arms 25 linked so as to rotate the shafts 17. The power shaft 19 is geared to the shaft 17 and has a flywheel and drive-pulley for imparting power to generators &c. Clutches in the gear-wheels 29 provide for rotation in one direction only, and comprise keyed discs with the edges cut away to form cam-surfaces. The discs are disposed in recesses in the gearwheels 29, and rollers are fitted between the camsurfaces and the inner surfaces of the gear-wheels.
