Padlocks; hasp locks. - A padlock or hasp lock is constructed to be self-locking, and to be unlocked by turning the key in either direction, the shackle or hasp being thrown out clear of the casing. In one form the bolt B is pivoted at b, and has a head b<1> which engages in a notch a in the shackle A. The bolt carries an abutment b<2>, on which the shackle presses in the locked position, and has a slot b<3> allowing the bolt to move about the stud c fixed to the casing; it also carries a stud b<4>. Pivoted to the stud c is a lever C with a strong spring c', held under tension by the abutment b<2>, and a gating c<1> in which works the bolt stud b<4>. Fig. 1 shows the padlock in the locked position. To unlock, the lever C is rocked on its pivot by turning the key in either direction, releasing the stud b<4>, which is then free to enter the long part c<1> of the gating. The bolt is then rocked on its pivot b in the direction of the arrow, by the tension of the spring, releasing the shackle, and allowing the abutment b<2> to shoot it clear of the casing. In a modification, the bolt slides on a pair of pins working in slots.
