Abstract

157,053. Tekniske Forsogsaktieselskab. Jan. 15, 1920, [Convention date]. Machinery, utilizing inertia to obtain movements in.-In flying-machines having supporting planes which are reciprocated in a horizontal or slightly curved path and have their angle of incidence automatically reversed at the end of each stroke, the planes are reciprocated by centrifugal mechanism such as that described in Specification 157,870. In one form, Fig. 5, the plane T is supported by a pair of reciprocating carriages g sliding on fixed rods a<1> between adjustable buffers h<1>, h<2>. The reciprocation is brought about by the variation in the resultant of the centrifugal forces due to the rotation of weights o', o<2>, o<3> about the shaft 1, the weights o<1>, o' being connected together and rotated in the opposite sense to the weight o<2>. The weight o<2> is carried by an arm s<2> from a sleeve n<2>, and the weight 0<3> by an arms s' from a sleeve n<3>, and the sleeves n<2>, n' are driven in opposite senses by the gears r<4>, r <3> and r<2>, r<1> respectively which slide along the driving-shaft w as the plane is reciprocated. More than three weights may be used. In a modification, in which the plane moves in a slightly curved path, the plane is carried by an arm which is oscillated in a vertical plane about a pivot at its lower end; the weights rotate around the arm in the same way as the weights in Fig. 5 rotate around the shaft 1; and the gears are driven by a flexible shaft.
