[Class 117] [Also in Group XXIV] In sifting &c. apparatus of the kind in which reciprocatory movement in a straight line is imparted to the apparatus by two unbalanced shafts mounted thereon and rotated synchronously in opposite directions, and in which the forces re-acting on the support are balanced by a thrust rod between the support and apparatus and driven by cranks or eccentrics on a shaft mounted on the apparatus, the out-ofbalance weights are adjustable about their shafts so as to vary the direction of linear movement. The two shafts 31, 32, Fig. 3, are geared together for rotation of equal speed in opposite direction by gear wheels 37, 38, and carry circumferentially adjustable eccentric weights 41 .... 47 and 41<SP>1</SP> ... 47<SP>1</SP> on cylindrical eccentric portions of the shaft. One of the shafts has eccentric end portions driving connecting rods 62, 63, the other ends of which are attached to the supporting base which may be fixed or suspended by cables. The apparatus is supported and the connecting rods are attached to the supports through resilient blocks which are subjected to shearing stresses only. In one form the resilient blocks consist of rubber vulcanized to metal plates bolted to the connected parts which are disposed in planes parallel to the line of reciprocation.
