Abstract

1497122 Ball-and-socket couplings OTTO RIEHLE 11 Aug 1975 33431/75 Heading B7T A ball coupling device, Fig. 1, for use in coupling a trailer to a towing vehicle, comprises a mounting 1 for fastening to the rear of the towing vehicle and a coupling ball (not shown) provided on a ball neck 3 detachably securable to the mounting 1, wherein a holding part 4 fixed to the neck 3 may be slid laterally on to a carrier plate 2 fixed to the mounting 1 to engage with edges 10, 11 of the carrier plate and wherein locking means are provided for positively securing the holding part in position on the carrier plate in the direction of lateral sliding. In the embodiment of Fig. 1, the locking means takes the form of bolts 12 which are screw threadably engaged in the holding part 4 so that the ends of the bolts may be brought into engagement with depressions (13), Fig. 2 (not shown) in the carrier plate 2. In the embodiment of Fig. 3 (not shown), the bolts of the locking means are spring loaded into engagement with depressions of the carrier plate. In the embodiment of Fig. 4, the locking means comprises a pivotally mounted device 22 having arms 23 which locate around the carrier plate 2.
