A stanchion 4 is retained in the socket 3 secured to the longitudinal 2 of a platform vehicle by a wedge 6 which is moved into locking position by gravity or spring pressure. The wedge 6 is released by manual pressure on the end 8 or by means of a link engaging a lateral pin carried by the wedge.
