Abstract

1492268 Thermal insulating case for measuring lances ELECTRO-NITE NV 12 June 1975 [31 Oct 1974 17 Jan 1975] 25157/75 Heading G1D [Also in Division B8] A thermally insulating case 3 for forming a thermal shield for a measuring or sampling head 1 on a lance 5 is formed of a pressed or extruded mixture consisting mainly of cellulose material and a binding agent. As described, a measuring cell 2 is mounted partly within the case 3. The case 3 may be provided with two longitudinal holes for the mounting of a temperature measurement cell and a sampling cell. The cell 2 may be mounted on a plug support which is mounted in the case 3. The insulating case 3 allows the cell 2 and lance 5 to be inserted in molten metal with the lance 5 remaining at substantially room temperature during approximately the first fifteen seconds of immersion. The cellulose material may be wood fibres, wood chips, wood dust, flax, flax tow or cane-trash and the binding agent an amino plast. Other materials may be added to the mixture such as sand, sodium silicate, monoammonium or monomagnesium phosphate, fibre glass or asbestos.
