Machine guns. - Consists in adapting a fire-arm to receive alternative types of magazine by forming two guideways on the fire-arm into one of which a magazine may be slid horizontally, and into the other of which a magazine may be slid verticallv. In the form shown, as applied to a fire-arm of the type described in Specifications 141.533, 148,023, 148,024, 149,451, [Class 119, Small-arms]. and 149,452, horizontal guides 21, 22 are formed on the gun adapted to receive corresponding ribs 23, 24 on a drum magazine M, Fig. 1, when this is slid transversely from either side of the gun into the feed opening; and a vertical guideway 17 is formed on the front of the frame F, adapted to receive a guide 39 on the rear wall of the box magazine M<1>, Fig. 4, when this is slid upwards towards the feed opening. To secure either magazine in position, a projection 36 on a pivoted spring- actuated lever K is adapted to snap on the one hand into a slotted projection 26 on the drum magazine M, Fig. 8, or, on the other hand, into a hole 37 in the rear wall of the box magazine M<1>, Fig. 7. Unlocking is effected by elevating the end 42 of the lever K.
