Abstract

1464626 Air conditioning units for heating and cooling buildings AMERICAN AIR FILTER CO Inc 1 July 1974 [15 Aug 1973] 29177/74 Headings F4U and F4H A system for heating and cooling zones I, II in a building comprises an air conditioning unit 16 in each zone formed with a compressor 18, a heat exchanger 19 including an air conditioning coil 20 with refrigerant therein and a tube-intube heat exchanger 8 wherein water circulates through the inner tube 26 and refrigerant flows in the outer tube 28. A reversing valve 30 controls the direction of flow of refrigerant to the heat exchangers 19, 8 so that they act as evaporators or condensers to heat or cool air and water therein respectively. A temperature sensing device 40 senses both the water temperature in the heat exchanger 8 and the condensate temperature on the outer surface of the air conditioning coil 20 whereby when either reaches a preselected temperature it electrically communicates with the refrigerant compressor to de-energize the motor. The water tubes are in a common closed circuit 3 ... 6 including a pump 2 and cooling and heating means 12, 14.
