1448560 Rear-view mirrors MAGNATEX Ltd 5 Dec 1973 [6 Dec 1972 8 May 1973] 56349/72 and 21955/73 Heading B7J A vehicle rear-view mirror assembly, adapted to be mounted on window framing of a vehicle door having outer and inner skins 1 and 2, comprises a mirror head 3, 4 carried on an arm 5 which extends through an aperture 13 in a mounting plate 11 adapted to be secured to the framing, the arm 5 having a ball 6 adjustably clamped between socket portions 9, 10 of the mounting plate 11 and a clamping plate 12, the frictional clamping force being varied by adjustment of screws 14 extending through holes in plate 12 into threaded bosses 18 on plate 11. The arm 5 extends, in use, inside the vehicle to a handle 7 by which it is swivelled about the centre of the ball 6, this centre being between the skins 1 and 2. The mounting plate 11 has further bosses 16 to receive nut members 28 for securing the assembly to the vehicle door. The socket portions 9 and 10 have linings of a resilient or plastics material on their ballengaging surfaces. Aperture 13 and a corresponding aperture 25 in plate 12 are of shape and size such as to allow the desired range of swivelling arm movement to adjust the orientation of the mirror head. In another form, Fig. 8, mounting member 50 defines a socket 53 for the ball 6 in a passage 56 which extends through the member 50 to threadedly receive a clamping ferrule 54.
