Abstract

The exterior mirror which is adjustable from inside the vehicle has a mounting sockt (2) attached to the vehicle door (1). The male spherical surface (5) of the socket mates against the female spherical surface (8) of the end of the mirror arm (4). Each surface has a central hole (6, 8a) through which passes a hollow cylindrical dowel (13) traversing the two surfaces. The cable mechanism (21) for mirror adjustment passes through the dowel. A spring (9), concentric with and external to the dowel, compresses a convex (12) and concave (14) up against the inside faces of the male and female socket surfaces respectively. Lips (16, 17) on each surface maintain the mirror arm in a normally fixed position, but the spring allows movement if the mirror is hanged violently.
