Abstract

1440374 Regulating vehicle headlamps ROBERT BOSCH GmbH 23 Aug 1973 [24 Aug 1972] 39973/73 Heading F4R Apparatus for regulating the light beam angle of a vehicle headlamp comprises a reflector 16 which is pivotably and manually adjustable about a horizontal axis against the force of a spring by adjustment screw 30 having a head 36 by means of which the screw is rotated to effect the manual adjustment and a regulating unit 32 having a piston 34 for pivotally adjusting the reflector about the same axis in dependence upon the vehicle load, the regulating unit 32 being coupled to the reflector 16 by means of the adjusting screw 30 and other mechanical elements. As shown, the regulating apparatus 29 is secured to the headlamp ornamental ring 12 by the adjusting screw 30 and has a threaded bolt 31 which is coupled to the regulating unit 32 and to the sliding bearing socket 14 secured to the reflector 16. The threaded body 37, Fig. 3, of adjusting screw 30 is located by lugs 38 in one end of a guiding sleeve 39, the other end of the sleeve receiving a longitudinally displaceable, square cross-sectioned pin 42 having a collar 45 in which the threaded bolt 31 is anchored. A compression spring 46 maintains an appropriate resilient connection between the pin 45 and the sleeve 38. Adjustments from the regulating unit 32 are transmitted to the end of the threaded bolt 31 by a piston rod 34 and an arm 35, and initial adjustment of the headlamp is facilitated by rotation of the screw 30 by means of an actuation head which may be accessible from either the front or rear of the headlamp. Various different constructions and arrangements of the adjusting screw and co-operating mechanical elements of the regulating apparatus which function similarly to that just described are also detailed, Figs. 4-9 (not shown).
