Abstract

1446446 Shuttering for concrete bridges DYCKERHOFF & WIDMANN AG 15 Aug 1973 [18 Aug 1972] 38644/73 Heading E1G Apparatus for use in successively casting cantilever sections of a concrete bridge box section girder 3 having overhanging decking 6', comprises outer shuttering 7 reinforced by members 8 and 8' supported by overhanging girders 9 of a cantilever construction carriage attached to the members 8, the girders having travel means 10 and associated fixed supports 11 for alternately bearing on the underside of already constructed parts of the bridge and travel means 13 and fixed supports 14 for alternately bearing on rails on the upper side of the already constructed parts of the bridge, and half frames 12 connected to the girder 9 at the rear end of the shuttering and extending around the edges of the bridge decking to support the travel means 13 and the fixed supports 14. The carriage is supported by the fixed supports 11 and 14 (hydraulic jacks) during concreting and by the travel means (rollers) during movement. The inner shuttering is foldable and supported on a truck during movement. The lower shuttering 8' is pivoted about a horizontal axis at one end for movement past a pier. The upper inner ends of the half frame may be interconnected to brace them during movement. In modification the rear supports may be further half frames and the girders may comprise two ports pivoted together or may be of box section and telescopic. The lower shuttering 8 may be supported from the girders by adjustable hydraulic jacks to vary the height of the box side walls. In a method of construction of a bridge having a number of bays two carriages are used back to back to construct the section above a bridge pier and the first sections forwardly and rearwardly and then each moves outwardly until mid span, when an auxiliary structure is utilized to move the carriages to the next pier. The auxiliary structure comprises a box section or truss girder spanning at least one bridge bay, a hoist-movable along said girder for supporting the carriages during their movement to a new location, and means for moving the auxiliary girder relative to the bridge decking.
