Abstract

1443211 Cartons FEDERAL PAPER BOARD CO Inc 29 Oct 1973 [6 Dec 1972] 50155/73 Heading B8P The blank of Fig. 4 is erected to form a carton, Fig. 1, having a multi-panel, longitudinal handle and partition structure which is connected to the end walls 17 and 15, 20, portions of this structure being cut and folded to form transverse partitions 37, 42, 37<SP>1</SP>, 42<SP>1</SP> which are secured to the side walls 16, 18. The structure is formed from two similar portions 26, 27 of the blank. Each portion 26, 27 is connected to the main part of the blank solely by a panel 31, 311. The handle portion of the structure is formed of three plies by means of two half panels 56, 56<SP>1</SP> which are folded over and glued to the main panels 54, 54<SP>1</SP>. The portions 26, 27 are then folded over and the shaded panels 31, 31<SP>1</SP>, 44, 44<SP>1</SP> are glued to the carton end and side walls. When the blank is folded about score line 12, the two halves of the longitudinal structure may be glued together. After securing the end wall portions 15, 20, the carton may be erected from its collapsed condition. The base of the carton is formed by two interlocking panels 60, 61. In a modification, each portion 26, 27 is connected to the main part of the blank by a handle reinforcing panel (146, 146<SP>1</SP>), the connection between this panel and an end wall of the blank being a short, transverse score line (124, 125). The base forming panels may be provided with flaps which form upstanding partitions.
