Abstract

1327819 Composite blank and cartons and sleeves erected therefrom R K BALL 30 April 1971 [8 May 1970] 22280/70 Heading B8P A composite blank for erection into a collapsible container or a sleeve comprises a board sheet section and a transparent plastics sheet section adhered together so that the blank periphery is partly defined by the board sheet periphery and partly defined by the plastics sheet periphery. Each of the board and plastics sheet sections has a longitudinal crease about which the sections are folded to collapse the container or sleeve. The plastics sheet material may be P.V.C., polystyrene or cellulose acetate. In one embodiment (Figs. 1-4) a composite blank is folded to form a tube of rectangular cross-section, the ends of which are closed by tuck-in flaps. In this embodiment the top wall or the top wall and a side wall are formed solely by the plastics sheet section. A composite blank (Figs. 5-6) can also be folded to form a tube of triangular cross-section; the board sheet section constituting a rectangular base panel and two triangular tube-end closure panels hinged to two shorter edges of the base panel and the plastics sheet section solely constituting two rectangular side panels each secured to a longer edge of the base panel. A composite blank may be folded into a six sided sleeve (Figs. 7-9), three sides of which are constituted solely by the plastics sheet section and the ends of which are closed by separate plugs. The shell of a drawer and shell type container (Fig. 10) may also be formed from a composite blank, the plastics sheet section solely constituting one wall of the shell so that the contents of the drawer can be viewed without opening the container.
