Abstract

1439164 End caps SAMUEL PEGG & SON Ltd 28 Oct 1974 [27 July 1973] 35895/73 Heading E2B An end cap for receiving an end portion of a rod or spindle 28 comprises a plate 2 having an aperture 4, a bracket 6 which is mounted on the plate 2 and has an aperture 8 in alignment with the aperture 4 of the plate 2, and a slide member 12 which is located between the plate 2 and the bracket 6 and has an aperture 14, the slide member 12 being movable between first and second positions in which its aperture is in or out of alignment with the apertures 4 and 8, respectively; a spring 22 is provided to urge the slide member 12 into the unaligned position. The apertures 4 and 8 may be circular and of the same size and the aperture 14 may be composed of arcs of two circles one 'having the same diameter of the apertures 4 and 7 and the other having a larger diameter. The bracket 6 has a portion 10 having a flange 26 and a socket 24 for the spring 22. The slide member 12 is provided with a flange 18, a flange 20 which abuts the spring 22 and a flange 16 which retains the slide member 12 between the plate 2 and the bracket 6. By exerting manual pressure on the flanges 26, 18 of the bracket and slide member respectively, the latter is moved to allow the rod or spindle 28 to be received in the end cap, the larger diameter portion of the aperture 14 being in alignment with the apertures 4 and 8. Release of the flanges 26, 18 allows the spring 22 to move the slide member 12 to the first position so that the portion of the aperture 14 can be received in a radial groove 30 formed in the end of the rod or spindle 28.
