Abstract

1438461 Valves ETABS P PIEL 3 Jan 1974 00295/74 Heading F2V A mixing valve for hot and cold water having inlets 3, 4 and an outlet 2, comprises a fixed plate 9 provided with a pair of rectangular orifices 6, 7 therein communicating with the inlets, and an overlying movable plate 10 having a rectangular orifice 8 therein communicating with the outlet. The plate 10 can be slid over the plate 9 by a lever 5 to regulate the temperature and/or quantity of the water delivered through outlet 2. Movement of lever 5 in direction 11 controls the overlap between orifices 6, 7, 8 in a manner which adjusts the temperature without adjusting the quantity, whereas movement of lever in the direction 12 controls the overlap to adjust the quantity without affecting the temperature, Figs. 5 to 8 (not shown). The lever is ball-jointed to the housing 1 and is connected to a rod 15 having a lateral extension 18 keyed at 23 to, and engaging a channel 19 in a slide 20 carrying the plate 10. Lever movement in direction 11 moves the rod and slide in direction of axis 17, whereas lever movement in direction 12 partially rotates the rod and thereby moves the slide in direction of axis 17a. The lever can be moved in directions combining the directions 11, 12. Preferably, the plates 9, 10 are of ceramic material and are supported in an expansionpermitting manner. In an alternative embodiment, Figs. 3 and 4 (not shown), the lever is attached to a rod having an eccentric portion (25) which moves the plate 10 in the direction of axis 17a when the rod is partially rotated by the lever, movement of the plate 10 in the direction of axis 17 being achieved by rotating a separate knob (26) located at one end of the rod and secured to elements having screwthreaded co-operation with a bore in that end of the rod.
