Abstract

1437171 Charging IC engines HYDROCONIC Ltd 24 May 1973 [25 Feb 1972] 3519/72 Heading FIB A marine diesel engine 12 includes an exhaust turbine driven supercharger 16 and an electrically driven blower 13 deriving its electrical supply from an electrical generator 11 and discharging additional air into an air intake manifold 14 when the engine speed falls below a pre-selected value. The generator 11 may be driven by engine 12 or by an auxiliary prime mover. A valve 15 opens automatically when the blower 13 is operating. The blower 13 is shut-down when engine speed rises to the pre-selected level by means of a mechanically operated relay or by a tachometergenerator 17 which removes the generator excitation. More than one marine diesel engine may be used with a single electrical generator driven from either or both engines or a generator may be fitted to each engine.
