Abstract

1396082 Charging I C engines DAIMLERBENZ AG 5 Feb 1973 [11 Feb 1972] 5534/73 Heading F1B An I.C. engine has an exhaust gas turbocharger consisting of an exhaust gas turbine 1, Fig.2 and a mechanically connected compressor 3 which can be additionally driven by a regulable electric motor 4 which maintains the turbocharger speed constant over the entire engine speed range. The connecting shaft 2 may form the motor armature or the motor may be arranged laterally of the turbocharger or on an extension of the shaft. An electronic control system (not described) maintains the speed constant and, in the event of excess turbine energy, switches the motor to serve as a generator. The motor may be battery driven.
