Abstract

1434875 Screen-printing machines; control MITTER & CO 22 May 1974 [24 May 1973] 22877/74 Heading B6C A rotary screen-printing machine includes a monitoring device which senses a monitoring pattern carried on a marginal portion of the stencil and operates adjusting means for the stencil when necessary. The stencil 1 is preferably an endless belt stencil carried around drive rollers (16, 17), Fig. 1 (not shown), and an adjustable tensioning roller (15), and is provided with a strip 11 in one longitudinal margin and optionally with other marks (13, 14) which aid adjustment, Fig. 2 (not shown). The strip 11 may be light-transmissive and sensed photo-electrically; magnetic and sensed by a magnetic switch; or in the form of a wire and sensed mechanically or electromechanically. Preferably, the strip is an open mesh formed at the same time as the stencil pattern (12) and is sensed pneumatically. Thus, in Fig. 3, the monitoring means 2 includes a sensing head 22 fed from compressor air blower 20, air passing through strip 11 to hydraulicallycontrolled slide valve 3 operating on a servo cylinder 4 which via piston 40 is connected to the tensioning roller (15). Alternatively, the monitoring means 2 could misplace the printing head of a cylindrical stencil, and the marks (13), (14) could adjust other parameters.
