Abstract
1408740 Vehicle lamps C HAMASHIGE 8 Jan 1974 00808/74 Heading F4R [Also in Division G4] A road vehicle includes masts M Fig. 1, each carrying a pair of electric lamps to afford red and green lights in addition to pairs of electric lamps to afford red and green lights on the front and rear of the vehicle, the lamps being controlled to indicate acceleration, braking and turning. Circuit arrangement, Fig. 4. In the coding adopted for the signal lamps the first letter is L for left, R for right, the second letter is F for front, R for rear and T for mast-head, and the numeral is 1 for red signals and 2 for green signals. Lamps DL-1, DL-2, DR-1 and DR-2 are red (1) and green (2) as tell-tales on the dashboard. The circuit incorporates flashers 48, 108, turn switches S1, S2 (see also Fig. 3, not shown), and switches as follows: Switch Actuation 52 Closed when brake pedal actuated. 54 Closed manually for emergency flashing. 83 Closed by ignition key. 90 Closed when accelerator pedal depressed. 99 Closed when transmission actuated. The lamp signalling is elaborated in the Specification and includes flashing of appropriate green lamps when the vehicle turns at constant or accelerated speed, and continuous green light when not turning and at constant or accelerated speed. Lamp mountings. Figs. 6, 8.-In one embodiment a spring-loaded telescopic mast M Fig. 6 carries a piece 152 Fig. 8 of red material connected by a ring 154 to a shell 156 of rigid green material incorporating a flange 158 secured to rigid base 160 which supports a bracket 162 to carry lamp sockets 164, 166. It is arranged that the cabling to the lamp sockets is wound electrically on to reel 224, Fig. 6. The incandescent bulbs 164a, 166a are separated by an opaque reflector 168. In another embodiment lamp supporting masts are removably fixed, Fig. 2 (not shown).
