Abstract

1335555 Brake warning devices JOSEPH LUCAS (INDUSTRIES) Ltd 19 April 1971 [24 April 1970] 19699/70 Heading F2E A device for warning a vehicle driver that the handbrake is on when the ignition is switched on comprises a translucent hollow button 16 in which is resiliently mounted a bulb 21 the conductive lug 22 of which engages an insulated rod 12 axially movable in an insulated housing 11 forming part of a hand brake ratchet release mechanism, the rod 12 being connected to a battery via the ignition switch. If the handbrake is operating and the ignition switched on the conductive portion 25 of bulb 21, engaging a conductive flange 24 of a brass bush 17, causes bulb 21 to light. The lighted bulb can be viewed through the end 26 of the button which end constitutes a lens. The bulb may be arranged by means of a flasher unit, to flash on and off rather than give a continuous signal.
