Abstract

1404240 Lightning arresters BOWTHORPEHELLERMANN Ltd 15 Oct 1973 [23 Oct 1972] 48803/72 Heading H2H In order to reduce the overall height of a lightning arrester or surge diverter, the components thereof are arranged in two or more stacks, each component in one stack being directly electrically connected to a component in another stack. The components of a surge diverter each comprise a spark gap assembly, say 41, surrounded by non-linear resistor elements, say 51, 52, the resistors being electrically connected to either side of the spark gap assembly by means of elements 15, 8, 9. The resistors are connected from one stack to another by way of strips 12 so that the conductive path through the diverter between end plates 2, 3 zig-zags from one stack to the other to include all the spark gaps 41-45 and resistors 51-60.
