Abstract

1,214,062. Servicing spinning machines. LEESONA CORP. 30 April, 1968 [8 May, 1967 (2)], No. 20343/68. Heading D1D. A method of automatically servicing a textile machine, e.g. a spinning machine, having a plurality of stations, each comprising yarn supply means and a bobbin for taking up yam comprises applying a starting yarn end from an external source to a bobbin and joining the yam end from said bobbin to said supply means. The yam from the external source may be wound onto a bare bobbin after it has been placed on the spindle, or it may be wound onto the bobbin in a servicing tender before being placed on the spindle or it may be wound on the bobbin before the bobbin is brought to the machine. In one embodiment, see Fig. 2 and Figs. 3-8 not shown, an empty bobbin (18) is placed by means not shown on an auxiliary spindle 29 situated within a servicing tender 20 which passes along a machine servicing full bobbins or broken ends as disclosed in Specification 1,189,521 and is shown in a position adjacent a spindle requiring an empty bobbin. Yarn Y from an auxiliary package 30 mounted in the tender is clamped at the foot of the auxiliary spindle 29 so that when spindle 29 is driven and a traverse 32 operated a bunch is wound on the bobbin. On completion of the bunch the bobbin is gripped by a pneumatic gripper (see Fig. 9 not shown) on an arm 34, lifted from the auxiliary spindle 29 and placed on the empty spinning spindle. The thread running to the auxiliary supply 30 is again clamped at the foot of spindle 29 and severed between that point and the bobbin, the end attached to the bobbin being caught by a suction nozzle (40). The end is then lifted by nozzle (40), Fig. 11 not shown, and a notched arm 50 mounted in the tender moved, Figs. 12, 13, 14 not shown, to shift the yam against the traveller, the traveller then being blown over the yarn by a nozzle 54, Fig. 13 not shown. The yam continues to be moved along a slot in the ring rail until it passes through a slit (16.1) in the ring, Fig. 12 not shown. Nozzle (40) then lifts the yarn end and introduces it to the roving behind, the front delivery rollers to be joined thereto, the spindle then commences normal operation. Alternatively the end from the bobbin bunch may be brought to the roving at the front delivery rollers or the roving end may be brought down to a knotter when it is joined to the yarn end. Second embodiment In Figs. 16-19 not shown, an empty bobbin is placed directly into the spinning spindle and the yarn from auxiliary package 30, the end of which is held in a clamp (29') replacing auxiliary spindle 29, is taken by a suction nozzle to a notch or yarn adherent material at the foot of the bobbin. A bunch is then wound on the bobbin before clamp (29') clamps the yarn again. The yarn between the clamp and the bobbin is then sever and the end running from the bunch lifted to the drafting rollers by suction nozzle (40). Builder motion In Fig. 20 not shown, the rings (16') are reciprocated by the rotation of threaded rods (63) driven from a shaft (60) driven through reversing means. A balloon control ring are traversed through a shorter traverse by a shaft (67) driven from shaft (60). To reset after doffing releasable lock nuts 70 can be opened to enable the ring rail and the balloon limiters to be lowered.
