Abstract

1396590 Area-resistance heater REUTER MASCHINENUND WERKZEUGBAU GmbH 26 Sept 1972 [27 Sept 1971 16 Oct 1971 12 July 1972] 44416/72 Heading H5H An electrically heatable area heating element comprises electrodes and connections on an electrically conductive film, the film being applied to a heat-resistant rigid heat-irradiating layer or to the non-lined side of a lined woven fabric, the film being covered by a heatinsulating coating. The coating is preferably a foamed air-impervious plastics material (polyurethane foam). The conductive film comprises a plastics dispersion carrying conductive particles, of soot of graphite. Metal or other substances coated with rare noble metals may be used. A potassium and/or sodium silicate may be present and a 60% aqueous dispersion of polyisobutene is used. The required viscosity of the dispersion is obtained by blending an aqueous acrylic resin dispersion with aqueous silicates with the conductive dispersion. The lining for the fabric may be a plastics material and the rigid irradiating layer may be Resopal boards (Registered Trade Mark) or a metal sheet insulated with a layer of epoxide resin. Other embodiments have no foam layer. Examples in the description are provided for pipe heaters &c. and heat storage layers on floor tiles.
