Abstract

1396050 Roller blinds H B BERDEN 5 March 1973 [3 March 1972] 10487/73 Heading A4B A screening device for windows, e.g. a skylight panel 10, comprises a first roll 13 on which a blind 15 is wound and a second roll 14 on which spaced pull bands 16 are wound, one of the rolls 13, 14 being directly driven in either direction and the other roll being driven by a transmission interconnecting the rolls 13, 14, the device including means allowing a change in length of the transmission or the unwound part of the continuous web formed by the pull bands and the blind resulting from the rolling and unrolling of the bands and blind on different and changing diameters. As shown the transmission comprises a chain 20 engaged with sprockets 18, 19 on the rolls 13, 14, the chain 20 including springs 21, 22 in its runs. The bands 16 are guided on rails 17. Various other arrangements for allowing the change in length include mounting one of the rolls 13, 14 to allow its displacement by or against the action of a compression spring, passing one run of the pull bands about a spring loaded idler roller, and carrying one of the rolls 13, 14 between pivotally mounted, spring biased arms. Alternatively, one of the rolls 13, 14 has its sprocket mounted for rotation relative to the roll against the action of springs. Both rolls 13, 14 may be disposed at the same edge of a window, the pull bands 16 extending around an idler roller at the opposite edge.
