Abstract

1384666 Inflatable dunnage bags INTERNATIONAL PAPER CO 4 May 1973 [20 June 1972] 21436/73 Heading B8C An inflatable dunnage bag 30 having a relatively, thin-walled, airtight bladder 25, 27 enclosed within a plurality of reinforcing sheets 31, 32, made, e.g. of paper, and a valve 10 mounted, e.g. by a grommet 19 and retaining ring 15, therethrough, to communicate with the interior of the bladder 25, 27, is characterized in that two flexible sheets 33, 34 are provided within the bladder 25, 27, one sheet 33 having an aperture 36, Fig. 4, aligned with the valve 10 and being secured to the adjacent wall 25 of the bladder around the valve 10, and at least the major portion of the other sheet 34 extending freely along the other wall 27 of the bladder opposite the valve 10. In this manner, when the bag 30 is inflated, the fluttering of the sheet 34 absorbs the dynamic energy of the inflating air stream as the latter discharges from the valve 10 and prevents rupture of the bladder material. As shown, the sheets 33, 34 are formed from a single sheet, Fig. 4, folded at 35, In a modification, Figs. 5, 6 (not shown), two separate sheets (41, 42) are employed the sheet (42) being secured along one edge (at 43) to the bladder wall (27).
