Abstract

1357742 Inflatable body for lifejackets BEAUFORT (AIR SEA) EQUIPMENT Ltd 27 Oct 1971 [11 March 1971] 6638/71 Heading A3V [Also in Division B7] A stole-shaped inflatable body for a life jacket comprises an outer envelope of relatively inextensible fabric and a bladder fitted therewithin, each lobe of the body carrying at its lower end an extension 12 provided wtih a piece of filamentary hook material which engages with a complementary piece 16 of filamentary loop material to hold the lower part of each lobe folded over while the body is being inflated by a fixed charge of gas, but if the pressure difference between the interior and exterior of the body exceeds a predetermind value due to ambient conditions, the portion 12 breaks away from the piece 16 to provide the body with additional volume for inflation. In alternative embodiments the complementary pieces of filamentary hook and loop material are provided at the outer sides of the body and at the top of the body to provide folds in the body at these locations. A further embodiment replaces the pieces of hook and loop material by an elasticated panel extending along the periphery of the body.
