Abstract
1382227 Spring hinges DORMA-BAUBESCHLAG GmbH & Co KG 16 March 1973 [17 March 1972] 12721/73 Heading E2F A spring-loaded hinge comprises two hinge elements, i.e. a flap 13 with sleeves 14, 15 and a flap 17 with sleeve 18, which are linked by a tubular hinge pin 20; a leaf spring 33 projecting from a slot 32 in the pin to engage a portion 19 of the sleeve 18; a torsion spring 28 attached at one of its ends to the hinge pin by member 31, and acting at its other end on a plug 22 which is engaged by an inturned end 21 of the pin for rotation with respect to the pin; an arcuate groove 23 in the plug which is engaged by a projection on the hinge pin to limit the rotary movement of the plug; and a recess 34 formed in the sleeve 14 for engagement by a dog or projection 35 on the plug. The recess 34 is formed to cause on insertion of the hinge pin into the sleeves, firstly the hinge pin's rotation into a position to become locked by leaf spring 33, to the sleeve 18 and then the plug's rotation with respect to the hinge pin so that the end of the groove 23 moves slightly away from its associated projection on the hinge pin. This causes an initial pre-tensioning of the spring 28. As shown in Fig. 3 the end 39 of the projection 35 cooperates with an entry portion 38 of the recess 34 and insertion of the hinge pin causes surface 40 to slide along surface 36 to cause angular as well as longitudinal movement of the pin. When insertion of the pin is complete the interengaging shapes of the projection and recess prevent any further axial movement. In another embodiment (Fig. 4, not shown) a stud (43) of circular cross section projects from the plug 22 and, when the pin is fully inserted, seats ina depression (47) in one side of the recess to prevent axial movement. The spring 28 may be pretensioned in the pin but in the embodiment shown in Fig. 1 an intermediate plug 26 links the spring with the end plug 22 and a cooperating arrangement of ratchet teeth 29 is provided between these plugs. A tool may be inserted through bore 24 to engage a recess 25 to tension the spring by rotation of the plug 26. Specification 1375803 is referred to.
