Abstract
1380011 Combustion chambers particularly for pulsating combustion K B OLSSON 30 March 1973 [4 April 1972] 15421/73 Heading F1L The invention relates to a combustion chamber particularly for pulsating combustion of a fuel/air mixture, the combustion chamber being of non- circular form and comprising a partition member which divides the chamber into two compartments. The combustion chamber 10 comprises a fuel/air mixture inlet 12 and a combustion gas outlet 14, the cross-section of the chamber in plan view being cross-shaped comprising four side chambers 18 defined by arcuate walls 20. A partition plate 16 is disposed within the chamber, dividing the chamber into upper and lower compartments 26, 28 which communicate by way of openings 22 between each edge 24 of the partition plate and the wall 20 of each side chamber. An ignition device is provided adjacent the upper chamber, the gases passing through the openings 22 to the lower chamber 28 discharging from there through outlet 14. In a second embodiment the crosssection of the chamber has the form of a fourpointed star. The combustion chamber may be used for heating a flow of water or air in which the chamber is disposed.
