Abstract
1378826 Regulating timepieces electrically DIXI SA 28 Nov 1972 [10 Dec 1971] 54824/72 Heading G3T In order to synchronize a mechanical oscillator with a standard frequency, the latter is divided to give periodic pulses which are fed to an electromechanical transducer to displace a member to a position where it may engage a part of the mechanical oscillator. As shown, pulses T derived from a crystal oscillator 1 via a frequency divider 2 are fed to a solenoid coil 5 to displace a pin 7. In the displaced position the pin engages the hairspring 8 of a balance 9 driven by the mainspring of a manually or automatically wound movement. The balance is adjusted to run slow and engagement by the pin 7 at the point g, Fig. 4, causes premature reversal of the balance to speed it up. In an alternative embodiment, the balance is adjusted to run at substantially the correct frequency and the pin 7, in its displaced position, engages a projection (12), Figs. 5-8 (not shown) on the rim of the balance only if the latter is running fast or slow, and correspondingly slows or speeds up the balance.
