Abstract

1378616 X-ray cassettes A SCHMITZER 21 March 1973 [25 March 1972] 13523/73 Heading H5R A vacuum cassette for holding an X-ray film 7 between two intensifier foils 5 and 6 comprises a pair of substantially planar housing plates 1, 2 and a sealing strip 3 attached along the periphery of one of the plates so that when the plates are disposed together an air-tight enclosure is formed and when air is withdrawn from the enclosure the external atmospheric pressure causes the plates 1, 2 to press the intensifier foils and the film closely together. To prevent the plates 1, 2 bowing if the sealing strip 3 is thicker than the foils and the film, a resilient band 14 is provided around a central portion of one plate. In Fig. 3 the strip 3 is fixed to plate 2 between a corrugation 10 and a lip 12, and plate 1 has a sealing bead 11. In Fig. 2 (not shown), the strip 3 is fixed to plate 1 and plate 2 is entirely planar, the strip 3 having a grooved sealing face contacting plate 2.
