Abstract
1369866 Block bottomed bags INDUSTRIELE ONDERNEMING WAVIN NV 4 Oct 1971 [2 Oct 1970] 46025/71 Heading B8K The block-bottom-shaped top of a bag is provided with upstanding flaps in which handle holes may be formed. As shown, a bag is formed from a sheet having a top gusset by joining the side edges and all four edges of the gusset by seams 8, 8<SP>1</SP>. The block bottom is then flattened and two transverse seams 21, 22 formed to provide the upstanding flaps 29, 29<SP>1</SP> having handle cut-outs 28, 28<SP>1</SP>. In a modification (Figs. 12 and 13, not shown), the bag is formed by sealing the sheet edges together and sealing the gusset edges in pairs. The transverse seams (30, 30<SP>1</SP>) are then formed across the flattened bottom forming upstanding flaps which extend around the entire periphery of the block bottom. Alternatively, triangular end parts of the gusset are folded over before the transverse seams are formed to provide flaps 29, 29<SP>1</SP> as shown in Fig. 9. Reinforcing seams may be provided along the lines 23, 24. The bottom of the bag may be gathered to close it after filling, or may also have a block-bottomed construction, either with or without upstanding flaps, in which case a filling valve is incorporated into one end of one of the block bottoms.
