Abstract

1320760 Plastics carrier bags WINDMOLLER & HOLSCHER 19 June 1970 [24 June 1969 31 Oct 1969 27 April 1970 (2) 22 May 1970] 29992/70 Heading A4G A plastics carrier bag has a handle 6 welded to the inside of one wall 1 and the other wall 2 is provided with a flap 9 which is folded over the first wall 1 and has a slot 10 through which the handle 6 passes. The first wall 1 may also have a flap which extends up past the handle 6 and which is folded back with the flap of the second wall Fig.3 (not shown). In Fig. 5 (not shown) the top end of the first wall is folded inwardly and the handle is welded to both layers and the top end of the second wall is folded inwardly and the handle slot extends through both layers. In Figs. 6 and 7 (not shown) the first wall is severed at its ends so that it is not joined to the bag side seams and forms a loose flap and the flap of the second wall having the handle slot is folded back and welded at the side seams so that the first flap has to be tucked into the second flap for the handle to be passed through the slot. Figs. 8 and 9 (not shown) describe a similar embodiment except that the second flap is doubled and two layers extend over the first flap and the handle extends through a slot in the side wall of the second flap just before the commencement of the double layer flap. In Figs. 22 and 23 (not shown) the first flap with the handle is welded to the second turned over flap of the second side and tear lines are provided in order that the first flap with the handle may be torn from the second flap and then tucked thereunder. In Figs. 24 to 26 (not shown) the foldable flap with the handle slot is provided with a reinforcing strip welded to the side seams of the bag and to the flap around the handle hole, and in Fig. 27 to 29 (not shown) the foldable flap is doubled back over the reinforcing strip. Various embodiments of channel and T shaped handles are described and the handles Figs. 10 to 12, (not shown) may have an undercut recess at their bases so that they snap into the recesses in the flaps, see also Figs. 14 and 15 (not shown).
