Abstract

1366018 Plate heat exchangers ALFA LAVAL AB 20 Sept 1972 [8 Oct 1971] 43559/72 Heading F4S A heat exchanger plate is formed with a plurality of corrugations or ridges 18, 19 extending across the plate surfaces to a peripheral gasket-receiving groove 23. The ridges 18 situated on the same surface of the plate as the gasket groove 23 extend all the way to the gasket groove such that their end surfaces form parts of a side wall of the gasket groove. The ridges 19 on the opposite surface of the plate merge in plate portions, such as cross-hatched areas 26, 27 and 28 or portion 24, which are situated midway between the planes extending through the crests of the ridges on both surfaces of the plate. In use a plurality of heat exchange plates and gaskets are stacked so that the ridges in one plate cross and contact like ridges in adjacent plates, the ridges thus serving both to support and space apart adjacent plates in the stack.
