Abstract

1360602 Liquid dispensing apparatus T P PRIESTLEY 1 Sept 1971 [15 June 1970] 28773/70 Heading A4T A beer dispensing apparatus comprises a number of kegs connected to valve block 23" Fig.1 containing solenoid keg change-over valves, non-return valves 27" a-f for gas at 37" pressurizing the kegs and non-return valves 39"a -f connected to a manifold having outlet 21" through which beer passes via conduit 17" A, B, C, solenoid change-over valve VI and non-return valve VNR to a dispensing valve, the other outlet - from VI leading at 313 to a waste container 315 for fob while a T-connection between ports 17" B, 17" C leads to an accumulator 303 containing cupdiaphragm 305 behind which gas pressure may be applied via line 311 from change-over valve V2, keg-change-over valves and valves V1, V2 being controlled by relay R1", Fig.2 and trigger circuit T" responsive to the presence or absence of beer around electrical probes P1, P2 at manifold outlet 21". When fob surrounds probes P1, P2, relay R1" closes contacts R1"B to energize solenoid V2S to allow pressurized gas to pass through valve V2 and load diaphragm 305 so that beer may still be dispensed from the accumulator 303 via lines 301, 17" C; changes contacts R1" C to energize solenoid V1S and thus connect line 17"A through shifted valve V1 to line 313 allowing fob to go to waste at 315; and changes contacts R1" A to change over from the exhausted keg producing fob to a fresh keg the beer from which allows contraction between probes P1, P2 and via the relay to change the valves back whereby pressure behind diaphragm 305 is released so that fob via port 17" B is forced in to the accumulator followed by beer flowing towards the dispense point. Should pressure at 37" fail, other than due to an empty keg, e.g. on shutting off the pressure source at night so that conduction between probes P1, P2 might be broken due to evolution of gas, then pressure switch PS1 opens to stop any energization of the keg change-over solenoid. In a second embodiment the flow connections in Fig.1 between port 17" B and valve VNR and accumulator 303 are broken and dispensing flow passes from port 17" C to the right of a gauze disc 317, Fig.3 dividing a cylinder 316 having end diaphragms 323, 327 which can be gas pressure loaded via pipes 311, 331, 333, and out of the right side 321 of the cylinder through valve VNR to the dispense valve. Any fob in port 17" B passes at 301 to the cylinder space 319 to the left of gauze 317, the gauze allowing any liquid beer to flow through into the dispense line but retaining froth. Fob may be withdrawn from the top of the cylinder via another valved outlet manually, or controlled by relay R1" in which case it forms the discharge valve and valve V1 remains open for dispensing. Where dispensing is effected by depressing a switch button, during change-over relay R1" may actuate further contacts to break the circuits through the dispense switches. Specifications 1306922 and 1300383 are referred to.
