Abstract

1359831 Tandem axle transmissions ENGESA-ENGENHEIROS ESPECIALIZADOS SA 27 Aug 1971 [4 Jan 1971] 40286/71 Heading B7H In a tandem axle transmission for a heavy vehicle, a differential 1 drives half-shafts 9 each of which is connected at its outer end by a collar 11 to a tubular shaft 8 surrounding the half-shaft and carrying a drive gear 8a connected through respective gear trains 13 and spindles 14 to wheel supports 16 carried by a housing 10 which is pivotally mounted on the associated axle tube 7 and contains the gear trains 13. Gears 8b splined to the inner ends of the tubular shafts 8 mesh with gears 3 one of which can be selectively coupled to a cross-shaft 4 to lock the differential by a clutch controllable from the driving cab of the vehicle through mechanically, hydraulically, electrically or vacuum operated means.
