Abstract

1448507 Motor vehicles COVENTRY CLIMAX ENGINES Ltd 1 April 1975 [28 March 1974] 13841/74 Heading B7H A drive axle for a fork lift truck comprises a transverse electric motor having a hollow armature shaft 15 connected to drive a differential gear assembly 27, a pair of half shafts 30, 31 driven by the differential gear, one half shaft 30 passing through the armature shaft 15, and a pair of wheel hub reduction gears 38 driven by the half shafts. The armature shaft 15 is mounted by ball bearings 16 in end plates 18, 19 bolted to the motor casing 12. A coupling flange 23 splined to one end of the armature shaft 15 has driving pins 25 which engage a differential cage 26 carrying planet gears 28 which mesh with sun gears 29 splined to the half shafts 30, 31. Caps 34 at the ends of the axle are bolted one directly to the motor and plate 18 and the other to a differential gear housing 33 bolted to the end plate 19. The axle is bolted to members 40, 41, 42 and mast 43 at the front of a fork lift truck having a single steerable rear wheel.
