Abstract

1359580 Cutting apparatus NAPHTACHIMIE 21 Feb 1972 [22 Feb 1971] 7962/72 Heading B4B A device for cutting sheet material, e.g. plastics material comprises a carriage 6 having a blade 11 and movable over a slide 3 formed with a slot 5, the carriage being provided with members 8, 9 adapted, in use, to press the material against the slide such that the latter is stretched laterally of the slot as the blade moves therethrough to effect the cut. The slide 3 and carriage 6 are mounted in a housing 1 provided with a cover 2 enabling a supply reel 15 of material to be inserted into brackets 13, 14 in the housing. The members 8, 9, as shown, are in the form of rubber rollers tapered so that as they roll over the slide they effect a stretching of the material across the slot. In a modification, Fig. 3 (not shown), the tapered rollers may be replaced by cylindrical rollers rotatable respectively, on left and right hand threads so that, as they roll on the slide they move apart to effect stretching. In a further modification, elongated shoes (20), Fig. 4 (not shown), are mounted on the carriage in such a way as to effect stretching. In still further modifications, the cutting wheel may be replaced by a pricking roller in order to form a perforated line, the guide slide 3 may have a rounded edge over which the sheet material passes and more than one pair of rollers or shoes may be provided.
