Abstract

1358825 Wrenches LITTON INDUSTRIES Inc 15 Jan 1973 2106/73 Heading B3N A torque applying device has a driving element 14, shown positioned in a head 12 of a ratchet type socket wrench, the driving element has an extension and includes a hand-actuable detent mechanism operable by an actuating element 26A, the detent mechanism has an outwardly biased detent element 16A. This detent element has a recess 52 of conical shape to co-operate with the tapered end of actuating element 26A. Spring 30 biases this element upwardly with vertical movement being controlled by pin 24. In an alternative embodiment the pin 24 is omitted and the actuating element has a shoulder that can abut shift plate 20. The recess may have a wedge shaped side only, be a laterally-open slot or be annular. The wrench illustrated is a ratchet wrench and has an attachment 22 engaged with element 14 for rapid movement thereof.
