Abstract

1356727 Joint-making packing COMMISSARIAT A L'ENERGIE ATOMIQUE 10 Aug 1972 [24 Aug 1971] 37378/72 Heading F2B A metal gasket comprises a metal helical spring core 3, a first resilient envelope 4 of hard metal and a second independent envelope 5 of ductile metal, the envelopes being formed of rings of substantially C-shaped cross-section. The spring core 3 may be made of steel with its ends joined by welding or by inserting a helically coiled element. The inner envelope 4 may be made of steel and the outer envelope 5 may be made of aluminium, copper, nickel or titanium. The gasket may be compressed axially as shown. The C-section of one envelope may face in the opposite direction to that of the other. When radial compression is required, the C-section opens axially.
