Abstract

1365383 Wells &c SCHLUMBERGER TECHNOLOGY CORP 3 Sept 1971 [4 Sept .1970] 41122/71 Heading E1F A tubing anchor and catcher comprises a mandrel 11 for connection in the tubing, expanders 40, 41, and gripping assemblies 18 each having a slip member 20 and drag block member 24 respectively biassed outwardly and inwardly by means 27. In each assembly at least a part of the working surface of one member lies between longitudinally spaced parts of the working surface of the other member. The expander 40 has a screw threaded connection with the mandrel and the expander 41 is connected to the mandrel by a shear ring 73, the arrangement being that rotation of the tubing in one direction sets the slip members and rotation in the other direction releases the slip members. If rotation fails to release the slip members the tubing may be pulled upwardly to shear the ring 73, or the tubing may be pulled upwardly and rotated to bring the expanders together to shear the ring. Gas escape channels 68, 69 70, 71 are formed in the housing 16.
