Abstract

1,213,243. Joint-making packing. ISTAG A.G. 11 April, 1969 [5 June, 1968], No. 26834/68. Heading F2B. In a gasket and centring ring assembly comprising a gasket 2 formed of asbestos or other packing material 10 contained between the coils of a spirally wound metal strip 4 and a centring ring 12, the gasket is retained in or on the centring ring by a rib 6, Fig. 2, or groove 24, Fig. 5, being engaged by projections on the inner or outer periphery of the ring which are formed by locally upsetting the ring material when the gasket and ring are assembled. In Figs. 2 and 5 the projections are formed by punching conical depressions 16, 16a in both faces of the ring. The metal strip 4 may be of stainless steel are the ring 12 may be of mild steel.
