Abstract

1354255 Escalator handrail INVENTIO AG 16 Feb 1972 [24 Feb 1971] 7207/72 Heading B8A [Also in Division F2] A handrail drive for an escalator or like passenger conveyer comprises an endless flexible handrail provided with teeth which are engaged by entrainment means positively interconnecting, and transmitting the drive simultaneously to, the advancing and return runs of the handrail, the entrainment means being displaceable to increase the play between deflecting means supporting the handrail at a deflecting location and the arcuate portion of the handrail at the deflecting location. In the Figure, toothed handrail 11 has advancing and return runs which are engaged at several (e.g. 3) points along the handrail by entrainment means 14 comprising a double toothed endless belt 15 trained round tensioning rolls 16, drive gear 21 and deflecting gears 22, all supported by plate 20. Drive gear 21 is driven via sprocket 23 and chain 18 by the drive means for the escalator itself.
