Abstract

1346297 Cable glands BRITISH INSULATED CALLENDERS CABLES Ltd 5 Aug 1971 [5 Aug 1970] 37852/70 Heading H2E A sealing gland for a metal sheathed cable has a composite seal 7, 8 compressed between two gland members 1, 2 which are urged together without relative rotation by a barrel 3. The seal comprises an elastomeric ring 8 and a lead ring 7 having an L-shaped section. One of the glands 2 may have an inner conical surface (Fig. 2, not shown) and at least one gland may be metallic, e.g. brass. The elastomeric ring may be neoprene or else of butadine acrolonitrile or ethylene-propylene rubbers. An armour ring 4 is provided and an outer seal 5 is tightened by a gland nut 6. Variations of the relative proportions of the L-section ring are disclosed, or a U-section ring may be used.
