Abstract

874,973. Mechanical couplings for cable armouring. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Sept. 24, 1959 [Oct. 17, 1958], No. 33240/58. Class 38 (1). The body of a cable gland comprises three screw-connected parts 7, 13, 8, preferably of aluminium alloy or manganese bronze, and has an internal tapered surface, formed either on the intermediate body part 13 or on a ring in a recess in that part, to clamp the armouring 4 of a cable against a complementary surface on a frusto-conical clamping ring 15 which is recessed to partly contain a sealing washer 16a. The washer 16a and a larger washer 16 which may be of soft P.V.C. or black rubber compound and may be of circular crosssection, are compressed to grip the P.V.C. layers 5, 3 respectively disposed under and over the armouring 4.
